Paralympics >> London 2012 | Rio 2016 | my dream
I am training for two completely different Paralympic sports, wheelchair track & field and paracycling. In wheelchair track & field, I am training to compete in the womens’ T51-52 100m, 200m, 800m and the discus and shot. In paracycling, I am training to compete in the womens’ factored H1-2 time trial (approximately 10 miles) and the womens’ combined H1-3 road race (approximately 30 miles). Even though selection for the Olympic and Paralyampics teams takes place only every 4 years, athletes spend the three previous years trying to make the USA Team in their chosen sport or discipline. Athletes are nominated to Team USA for a 1-year term every year. Selection is usually based on meeting specific standards set by the United States Olympic Committee as well as peformance in the sport's National Championsips. In non-Olympic/Paralympic years, nominated athletes represent Team USA in their sport/discipline at World Championships and other international competitions.
